- I was recently lucky enough to pick up an old sx64 without the
- keyboard cable. Now, I'm going nuts trying to rig up one of my own.
-
- First, I tried some solder-on 25-pin connectors, but quickly
- discovered that my soldering skills leave much to be desired. (BTW, the
- ready-made 25-to-25 male cables are just too big to fit in the teeny
- space on the bottom of the unit).
-
- My next attempt was with Radio Shacks clamp-on ribbon cable
- connectors. I put it together, then sawed off the ears on one end and
- fit it in (barely). It *almost* worked - except that every other key in
- the second row didn't work. That sounded like one of the wires wasn't
- making good contact, so I tried to take it apart. Bad idea - these
- connectors are apparently one time deals and came apart when I tried to
- open them again. A costly mistake at $4 per connector and $4 for the
- ribbon cable.
-
- I'm now planning to try the crimp connectors, but am getting
- pretty frustrated.
-
- Ideally, I'd like to open it up and make the socket more
- accessible, but that hasn't worked well either. The top of the case open
- easily, but gives no access to the socket on the bottom. The metal part
- of the bottom slides back a bit, but stops after an inch or so, and still
- leaves me unable to budge the plastic section that contains the socket
- fot the cable. I don't want to pry it for fear of breaking whatever
- plastic clips are holding it on.
-
- HELP!! -- Does anyone have an extra keyboard cable to sell?
- Anyone have any advice on how to get the area in question open? Does
- anyone have a manual to this beast they'd want to sell? I have this
- wonderful new toy and I can't use it. Any ideas?
-
- Thanks,
-
